Practices that underpin credibility and operations
When companies want to bring a credible sustainability solution to their business operations, they can depend on the The PrintReleaf Standard.
Overview of the PrintReleaf Standard:
-
- A foundational document that outlines the criteria and methodologies PrintReleaf adheres to for ensuring all environmental practices adopted are sustainable, scientifically sound, and contribute meaningfully to environmental restoration.
Measurement Methodologies:
-
- PrintReleaf uses the EPN Paper Calculator, a widely accepted tool, to calculate biomass (paper) offsets. Paper and/or Packaging consumption data from various sources is normalized to standard pages before equating it to standard tree equivalents.
- 8,333 Sheets of Standard Letter Size Paper = 1 Standard Tree Equivalent
-
PrintReleaf also employs a calculation methodology for carbon offsets that is also part of the Environmental Paper Network’s (EPN) paper calculator. In the table below, a ‘sheet’ is equivalent to a standard sheet that is measured 8.5” x 11.0” 20# paper.
To calculate the environmental impact, PRX starts by converting the paper consumption data into sheets, pounds (lb), and kilograms (kg). Then, multiplying the chosen unit of measurement by the emission factor for metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (mtCO2e).

Auditing and Verification Process:
-
- The PrintReleaf Standard requires third-party auditing of reforestation and carbon projects to ensure compliance and transparency.
- The standard mandates that reforestation projects contribute to local ecosystems' restoration and enhance biodiversity.
-
- Audits assess aspects such as the number of trees planted, survival rates, and overall project management.
Key Takeaways for Reporting and Compliance:
-
- The standard requires detailed documentation of all activities, from paper consumption measurement to project outcomes
-
- Regular reviews and updates to the standard to reflect the latest scientific findings and best practices in environmental sustainability.
